Champion vs Champion just got a lot bigger with the announcement that heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier are set to do battle at UFC 226 during the annual UFC ‘International Fight Week’.
As was first reported by MMA Fighting on Friday night, Stipe MIocic (18-2) and Daniel Cormier (17-2) are set to fight for the heavyweight title at UFC 226 on July 7th.
The UFC has been setting its sights on super fights as of late and given the weight classes involved, it really does not get much bigger than this.
Cormier has fought at heavyweight before but the current champion has been on a tear lately and has recently defended his belt against Francis Ngannou. Cormier also fought at UFC 220 and overcame Volkan Oezdemir to retain his light heavyweight champion.
Dana White was eager to make the fight happen when he appeared on FS1’s post-fight show last Saturday night.
In addition to the contest, the two champions are set to coach The Ultimate Fighter 27 which will broadcast later on this year and serves as an extra portion of build up to the colossal clash in July.
