After overcoming Donald Cerrone at UFC Singapore this past Saturday, Leon Edwards called out Jorge Masvidal and it seems a fight is on the cards.
Leon Edwards (16-3) overcame a bloody five round war with Donald Cerrone (33-10-1 NC) which should propel Edwards towards the top tier of UFC’s welterweight division.
During his post fight interview, Edwards didn’t hesitate in paving the way for his future plans.
I want (Jorge) Masvidal next…. He’s the one I want… In Birmingham. Let’s make it happen.
In an interview with MMAJunkie.com , Jorge Masvidal (32-13) is just a phone call away from the UFC from accepting Edwards’ challenge.
“I don’t give two fucks who calls me out. I just want a big fight. If Leon (Edwards) is the biggest fight that I can get my hands on, meaning the biggest name and the biggest ranking, then that’s who it is.
Masvidal hasn’t fought since November of 2017 when he fell short against Stephen Thompson and is currently on a two fight skid.
Stylistically, it could be a fight that benefits Edwards. Masvidal’s boxing is a cut above most at 170lbs but Edwards’ wrestling prowess is dominant when he displays it inside the Octagon.
All signs point to the proposed bout coming to fruition however, no time frame is known.
