A trilogy fight between MMA legends has been made under Oscar De La Hoya’s ‘Golden Boy’ promotion.
Chuck Liddell (21-8) teased a comeback late last year and it seems that he will now get his wish against a recognisable foe in Tito Ortiz (19-12-1)
Having fought twice before, Liddell has Ortiz’s number winning both bouts via KO.
The news broke via ESPN.com on Monday evening.
De La Hoya: I’m proud to announce we’ve signed a deal for the fight between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz…. Everyone remembers their rivalry helped put the sport on the map, and we’re excited to host the next and final chapter of this historic rivalry
As per De La Hoya, the bout is set to take place inside a cage rather than a ring.
Ortiz last fought in January 2017 when he submitted Chael Sonnen in – what was supposed to be – a retirement bout.
Liddell is reportedly in training again and has been for some time however, there are genuine concerns about how he will look inside the cage.
Liddell has not fought competitively since 2010 and was riding a 3 fight win streak when he first announced his exit from the sport.
The bout is due to take place on PPV later on this year but it’s unclear as to an exact date at this moment.
It is likely that the event can be viewed on streaming platforms for UK and Ireland viewers but details are yet to be announced.
