10 more hopefuls will look to secure a UFC contract by impressing Dana White tonight.
The Contender Series has so far unearthed some very interesting prospects and 14 of the 15 bouts completed have ended by way of stoppage.
Tonight’s card is headlined by unbeaten lightweight’s Rafael Fiziev (5-0) and Joey Gomez (7-0)
The Main Event
There is a lot of buzz about the main event this evening and with good cause.
Rafael Fiziev who fights out of American Top Team has finished all five of his opponents to date with four KO/TKO’s and one submission victory all inside the first round.
The heavy handed Fiziev will look to start early and showcase his finishing ability and earn a spot in the currently stacked lightweight division.
In front of him is Joey Gomez who has finished six of his seven opponents to date.
In what should be a tasty looking striking vs grappler match up, Gomez will likely look to use his wrestling skills and utilise his BJJ skills to look for submissions.
This is certainly a fight that has all the ingredients of a classic and looks like one of the most hotly contested bouts on the series to date.
The Rest of the Card
Jordan Espinosa (12-5-1 NC) returns to the show having competed last year on the show. Incidentally, he won that fight but is looking to have another crack at a UFC contract.
Opposite him is Riley Dutro (11-3) who is hoping that his brawling style will be enough to run through Espinosa and a future date with the Octagon.
Toby Miesch (9-4) and Ricky Palacios (9-1) are set to compete in a bantamweight contest in an intriguing looking fight.
Miesch has 6 KO/TKO victories to his credit and will look to showcase his vicious leg kick attack that has crumpled more than one opponent in the lead up to this fight.
As for Palacios, his weapons are his hands and has finished five opponents via KO and will look to do the same tonight in what could very well be a real life rock ’em sock ’em robots.
