The news broke early on Thursday morning.
Max Holloway (19-3) has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 226 featherweight title defence against Brian Ortega due to “concussive like symptoms!”.
The news was reported initially by ESPN.com on Thursday morning.
In a statement from Holloway’s team they cited that “Max was showing concussive like symptoms even before he started the weight cut and was rushed to ER on Monday for tests”.
The statement continues, “He showed some signs of improvement but after the open workouts, he crashed and was proving difficult to wake up”.
This is now the third fight that Holloway has had to withdraw from in the space of 12 months.
As for Ortega, it now appears that the UFC will not find a replacement for him.
The bout cancellation now sees International Fight Week deal with major changes or fight cancellations for four years in a row.
