Yoel Romero set to move up to UFC’s Light Heavyweight division

Romero fought at middleweight for 5 years but is now set to find a new home at 205lbs.

Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday night, Malki Kawa – manager to Jon Jones – broke the news that Yoel Romero is set to move up to light heavyweight.

We discussed it with the UFC and they offered us Alexander Gustafsson in August but that fight came to soon.

Romero has fought for the title twice against Robert Whittaker and has lost both times.

“The Soldier of God” has not been without his issues regarding making weight for the division and a step up to 205lbs will surely be a better fit for the 41 year old.

Kawa continued:

I want him to fight Cormier for the title. I think this is a fight that makes sense. DC has beaten everybody. This is a new challenge and we’re working on it. I’m positive it will happen.
