UFC Boise – Junior Dos Santos vs Blagoy Ivanov Preview

The UFC returns this weekend with a heavyweight fight at UFC Boise in what is a sneakily exciting card.

Junior dos Santos (18-5) returns to action after almost a year to take on a very tricky customer in Blagoy Ivanov (16-1-1 NC) in an exciting heavyweight contest.

Former champion Dos Santos is hoping to get back to title contention having lost to the then heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic in May of 2017.

The Brazilian has been on an inconsistent streak of late and has only fought four times in the last four years with various niggling injuries forcing him out of action for a considerable amount of time.

“Cigano” is one of the division’s premier strikers and arguably has some of the best boxing credentials in the division. With 13 KO/TKO victories to his credit, he’ll be looking to make a statement against one of the heavyweight’s rising talents.

Blagoy Ivanov is on a five fight winning streak and has finished three of his last five opponents in impressive style.

The Bulgarian is extremely well rounded and is comfortable anywhere the fight goes. With 12 finishes on his record, “Baga” knows that a win over the former champion will raise his profile significantly and potentially mount a challenge to take on Daniel Cormier who became¬†champion at UFC 226 last weekend.

Despite having 6 fights by way of knockout, it doesn’t appear to be a wise game plan to potentially trade shots with one of the divison’s best boxers in Dos Santos who has legitimate power in his hands.

An early shot for a takedown is the likely tactic tat Ivanov will employ but one thing is for certain, it’s an intriguing contest.

Prediction: Blagoy Ivanov via decision
