Cris Cyborg vs Amanda Nunes fight still up in the air as saga drags on

Nunes called out the UFC featherweight champion for a super fight but it is unclear when or if the bout will go ahead.

Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and featherweight champion Cris Cyborg were both interviewed on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday and both parties had varying statements to make regarding a potential fight between the two combatants.

Nunes had stated that she had signed a bout agreement for December.

I have signed a contract for a fight in December but I don’t think she (Cyborg) has signed anything.

In an interview later in the show, Cyborg stated that she has not yet knowingly received an agreement for a fight in December.

I want to fight in September. I last fought 4 months ago. She (Nunes) has been calling me out and now she wants me to wait? No. I am 33 years old and I only have two fights left on my contract. Maybe if they want me to fight Holly Holm first, then I’ll fight Amanda in December….. As for a contract, I’ll have to talk to my manager.

The fight is one that MMA fans will certainly want to see given the lack of depth at 145lbs currently.

Cyborg is adamant that she wants the fight but does not wish to wait until December.

Nunes cited an existing injury as to the delay in arranging a specific date for the fight.

I have a foot injury and I can’t fight until I’m better. It might take a couple of weeks but I also need to do a fight camp and I want to be at my best if I’m moving up.

Cyborg cut a frustrated figure during her interview with Ariel Helwani and her relationship with the UFC appears to be on a very rocky patch right now and it’s difficult to see a speedy resolve between fighter and promotion.

Strap in folks, there’s still more back and forth to go before we get a decision either way.
