The #3 ranked light-heavyweight was speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday evening.
Ilir Latifi is the latest to join a long list of fighters complaining about the UFC’s decision to book Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar.
Latifi believes that he is the next in line for a shot at Cormier and would rather he defended his belt at 205lbs against him rather than chasing a “freak show” fight.
“I am the next guy. I’m the one that’s ready and if he (Cormier) wants to fight this year then let’s go, I’m ready. He shouldn’t be fighting Brock (Lesnar), he should be fighting me”
UFC President Dana White confirmed that the promotion are likely to have double champion Daniel Cormier fight Lesnar in early 2019 but Latifi is not in favour of the contest.
“It’s becoming like a show. It’s like fake wrestling. I get that he wants money but I think the money fights are the ones that are actually fighting each other when they’re at their peak.”
Continuing in his tirade, Latifi called out the hypocrisy of Daniel Cormier’s stance on illegal substances.
“He (Cormier) was giving out about Jon Jones calling him a cheat when he was on steroids and now he wants to fight a guy (Lesnar) who is also a cheater. It doesn’t make any sense.”
Latifi is without a fight and is hopeful he can fight Cormier later this year but has not heard anything from UFC officials regarding a proposed booking.
