Kamaru Usman has told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that he has signed the bout agreement to fight Covington on the TUF 28 Finale later on this year.
“The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman was originally hoping that he would fight Darren Till but after the welterweight chess pieces moved around, it now appears that Colby Covington is next in line for Usman.
Having won the interim belt against Rafael Dos Anjos, Covington was forced to sit out against Tyron Woodley and as a result Liverpool’s Darren Till now gets the title shot this September.
Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN on Monday, Usman confirmed the bout agreement.
“Obviously I wanted to fight (Darren) Till but he’s off to fight Woodley. During my contract negotiations with the UFC, they offered me Colby and I’m gonna wait for him on November 30th. I’ve signed the bout agreement”
November 30th would mean that this fight would likely headline The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale which is yet to have a confirmed venue but is likely to be hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada.
