Fight Announcements: January 2nd

We may be early into 2019 but the MMA train rolls on with several fight announcements announced for the early months of the new year.

UFC PRAGUE:

Light heavyweights Magomed Ankalaev (9-1) and Darko Stosic (13-1) are set to throw fists for the UFC’s debut event in the Czech Republic on February 23rd.

Both men made their Octagon debuts last year with differing results. Ankalaev lost his opening fight under the UFC banner to Paul Craig via late triangle choke in a fight he was dominating but was able to rectify his loss with an impressive first round TKO a few months ago over Marcin Prachnio.

Stosic, now riding a nine fight win streak, had an impressive showing with a first round TKO victory over Jeremy Kimball and now hopes to progress with a win over Ankalaev.

CAGE WARRIORS 101:

Cage Warriors arguably had one of their biggest and most successful years to date and the promotion shows no signs of slowing down. With a new three year exclusive deal to UFC Fight Pass, the organisation announced two new bouts for their first event of 2019 in Liverpool.

Tim Barnett (5-2-1) vs Adam Ventre (5-3) are hoping to get 2019 off to a positive start in a crucial featherweight clash.

Barnett, coming off a loss to former BAMMA champion Alex Lohore at UFC 100, is hoping to snap a two fight losing streak and is eager to remind the world of his stellar knockout power.

Ventre has been sidelined since 2016 after claiming victory over Mathieu Morciano and is hoping to regain his form in spite of a lengthy absence away from the sport.

Also announced for the February card is Mick Stanton (3-3) vs Jenaid Ebanks (2-2)

Both men would obviously like to put 2018 behind them and start afresh with a victory with both men having dropped two fights each over the past 12 months.

On paper it’s certainly an even looking contest but which fighter can snap their 2 fight losing streak?
