Bellator’s debut on Sky Sports this weekend’s kicks off with a welterweight grand prix main event featuring a pair of British bangers.
It’s being billed as one of the biggest fights in UK MMA history and it would be difficult to argue against such a statement as Paul Daley (40-16-2) and Michael “Venom” Page (13-0) take to the cage on Saturday night.
Thankfully, UK and Irish viewers have a place to watch live and uninterrupted Bellator events – yes we are referring to you Peppa Pig – on Sky Sports Main Event/Action from 3am with prelims available beforehand on the free Bellator app.
Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder
Both fighters haven’t been in action since May of 2018 with differing fortunes falling upon each fighter.
Page is unbeaten in 13 professional fights and has finished five of his last six opponents in devastating fashion. Most will likely remember Page’s huge flying knee victory over Evangelista Santos at Bellator 158 which crushed Santos’ skulls as revealed by X-Ray scans following the fight.
Daley has had a turbulent time of it as of late and is 2-3 in his last five fights but the MMA veteran is still a very big draw and with over 30 KO/TKO victories to his credit, the Nottingham born fighter is still a stern test for anybody including Page who is looking to forge his own title of being the best fighter in UK MMA.
Bangers and Smash
It is often said that styles make fights and while this is true for the most part, these two only know one way. Step forward and slug it out and with over 40 finishes between the pair, it is likely that this trend will continue on Saturday night.
Despite a long absence from both, MVP is definitely in the ascendancy and is looking to add a 14th win to his impressive resume but Daley is a different prospect that awaits him and certainly won’t let him off the hook easily.
Experience could be key for Daley but the build up has been an intense back and forth affair and “Semtex” is looking to make a statement and is unlikely to take a step back when Page meets him head on in the centre of the cage.
Fists are the main weapon for both fighters but both are extremely crafty with their weapons so look for both men to add in some unconventional attacks throughout the course of the bout.
It’s a fascinating fight and one that has huge significance for the Bellator welterweight division and the entire UK MMA scene.
